Procedural steps in order

Rinse and dry the preparation



Examine the outline of the cavity



Determine the size of matrix band



Prepare the band



Hold the retainer, and turn the outer knob



Turn the inner knob until the vise moves



Identify ends of the band together



Slide the joined ends of the band



Guide the band between the correct guide slots and place band

Wedges function

To position a matrix band firmly against the gingival margin of the preparation which in turn helps the band provide the anatomic contour that is required interproximally.
