one-point perspective
a form of linear perspective in which all lines [describing straight edges that go from points nearer to points harther] appear to meet at a single point on the horizon.
avant-garde
cutting edge work, new, the latest thing. "front line" referred to the front line of military. avant-garde is the bravest group.
fauve / fauvism
an early 20th century art movement and style of painting in france. the name fauves, french for wild beasts, was given to artists adhering to this style because it was felt that they used intense colors in a violent, uncontrolled way. henri matisse was the leader of the fauves.
primitive / barbaric
early or undeveloped. "primitive" art such as art from africa inspired many artists. paintings and drawings of and by people and races outside the influence of accepted western styles.
colonization
the act or process of establishing a colony or colonies. colony: a region politically controlled by a distant country; a dependency. european countries colonized countries on other continents and brought back their "primitives art", inspiring artists of the time.
