What are the two stages of prophase

1) the chromatin fibres become tightly coiled condensing into chromosomes. Each chromosome contains 2 chromatids joined together by centromeres

2) the nucleus disappears ( nucleoli)

What are the 6 stages of prometaphase?

1) the nuclear envelop fragments

2) the microtubules extending from each centrosome can now invade the nucleus area

3) the chromosomes have became even more condensed

4) each of the two chromatids of each chromosome now have a kinetochore, a specialized protein at the centrosome

5) some of the microtubules connected to the kinetochore become kinetochore microtubules ( which jerk the chromosomes back and forth)

6) non kinetochore microtubules interact with those from opposite poles of the spindle

What is the 3 stages of metaphase?

1) the centrosomes are now at opposite poles of the cell

2) the chromosomes come together at the metaphase plate. An area that is equal distance from the spindles to the poles. The centromeres lie at the metaphase plate

3) for each chromosomes, the kinetochore of the sister chromatids are attached to kinetochore microtubules coming from opposite poles
