Who completes the brake test certificate?

Certificates are printed in triplicate and must be completed by the worker conducting the brake examination.


Train examiner or driver.

How long is each brake test certificate valid?

Your passenger brake test certificate is valid for the duration of the scheduled trip, when a new certificate will be issued prior to the next trip.


The train examiners certificate which was issued at a trains originating location will remain valid to allow the train to depart from any location for a maximum period of 24 hours from the completion time indicated on that certificate.

How is each brake test certificate disposed of?

All original white certificates must remain on the leading loco of the train and it will be the drivers duty when changing over or being relieved to ensure the relieving Driver is handed the original certificate/s.


The certificate must be attached to the Driver’s timesheet at the end of the shift.


The yellow copy is to be retained by the driver and handed to the station officer prior to departure of the train, and faxed to CARS.


The triplicate green copy is to remain in the book and when the book is completed handed to the train examiner supervisor
