Describe the two types of descending pathways

Direct /pyramidal tracts:upper motor neurones originate in the cerebral cortex and their axon synapses directly with the lower motor neurons in the brain stem or spinal cord

Indirect/extra-pyramidal tracts: originate in the upper motor nuerons of cerebrum and the cerebellum and their axons synapses in some intermediate nucleus rather than directly with the lower motor neurons

Direct descending tracts

Corticospinal tracts-anterior and lateral

Corticobulbar tracts

Carries motor impulses to muscles from motor cortex

Defects?loss of tone,reduced reflexes

Descending spinal pathways
