Describe the two types of descending pathways |
Direct /pyramidal tracts:upper motor neurones originate in the cerebral cortex and their axon synapses directly with the lower motor neurons in the brain stem or spinal cord Indirect/extra-pyramidal tracts: originate in the upper motor nuerons of cerebrum and the cerebellum and their axons synapses in some intermediate nucleus rather than directly with the lower motor neurons |
Direct descending tracts |
Corticospinal tracts-anterior and lateral Corticobulbar tracts Carries motor impulses to muscles from motor cortex Defects?loss of tone, reduced reflexes |
