"Cabin is secure."
Verify all carry-on baggage is properly stowed, overhead bins are closed, and exit seats have been visually & verbally assessed.
"Prior To Pushback"
Demo equipment available, all pax seated with seatbelts fastened, tray tables and footrests stowed, PEDs in airplane mode, ensure all glassware/china is collected and stowed, secure galleys (ovens off, stow carts, close/latch closets).
"Prior To Takeoff"
Observe sterile flight deck, turn off boarding music, prepare video monitors for safety video, report to safety demo positions, complete safety briefing/video, perform final cabin check (advice CA if any pax not seated), secure seatbelt and shoulder harness, perform mental review, and ensure all FAs seated.
ALL CALL
Done when jet bridge is pulling away/towards aircraft at arrival or departure. Verify all doors are fully closed, arm/disarm all doors and cross check, and finally respond or initiate All Call via interphone with FAs stating status of door(s).
What is included in a Mental Review?
Emergency equipment location and operation, exit locations and operations, emergency procedures/commands, potential ABPs, and location of special assistance pax.
What is the definition of a Red and Unanticipated emergencies?
A red emergency exists when the CA anticipates landing may cause injury to pax or damage A/C, emergency evacuation is probable, and A/C rescue and fire fighting equipment is required. And an unanticipated emergency is simply no time for preparation which usually occurs during taxi, takeoff, or landing with little warning.
State the FA response to life-threatening cabin conditions.
State procedures for fighting cabin fires.
Find source of fire, call for help, remove PO2 bottles from fire area. Notify flight deck and report the location, size, extent of damage, smell, color of smoke, texture, type of fire, FA responses and pax reaction. Get fire extinguisher and PBE. Don PBE, fight fire by aiming at the base of fire and extinguish in sweeping motion, monitor fire area to ensure that fire does not reignite. Keep flight deck informed of situation.
State response to a Decompression.
Don nearest O2 mask, sit down and fasten seatbelt, instruction passengers to "DON A MASK! SIT DOWN! FASTEN SEATBELTS!" After CA indicates A/C reaches safe altitude, obtain PO2 bottle and check cabin for pax in lavatories, walk through cabin and reassure passengers, check for structural damage, reseat pax as necessary. Report situation to flight deck crew. Have pax place used O2 masks in seat back pockets. Prepare cabin and pax for landing, according to flight crew instructions.
State how emergency lights can be activated.
Manually from the flight deck or switch in cabin (front FAP on MD-88/90/717).
State evacuation commands.
