Protocol

Set of rules governing the communication between devices. Ensures devices on a network, however different, "speak the same language"

Packet

A message sent by protocols operating at the network layer, e.g. IP packets

World Wide Web

The general name for accessing the Internet via HTTP. WWW is the identifier that indicates that it is a website and uses the HTTP protocol.

Bottleneck

The place, thing or item that constricts flow of data.

Pipelining

Pipelining is an implementation technique where multiple instructions are overlapped in execution. The computer pipeline is divided in stages. Each stage completes a part of an instruction in parallel.

Device drivers

1. Piece of software usually supplied with a peripheral that tells the OS how to communicte with the peripheral




2. These are needed because it's impossible for the makers of an OS to to program it to handle every single type of peripheral
