Work done

The work done by a force is the product of the force and the distance moved in the direction of the force

Joule

1 joule is the amount of energy transferred when a force of 1 Newton moves a distance of 1 metre in the direction of the force

Conservation of energy

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred to other forms

Power

Rate of work done

Distance

A scalar quantity which measure the total number of length units covered along a path taken

Speed

A scalar quantity, calculated by distance/time

Displacement

A vector quantity which measures the distance travelled in a particular direction

Instantaneous speed

Speed of an object measured over a very short time

Velocity

A vector quantity which measure the rate of change of displacement

Instantaneous velocity

The velocity of an object measured over a very short time

Acceleration

A vector quantity measured in ms-² which measures the rate of change in velocity
