What are the 2 main categories of Dangerous Goods?

• Acceptable - for transport by air, under provisions for dangerous goods carried by passengers or crew


• Forbidden - for transport by air

Is Swoop authorized to carry dangerous goods/hazardous materials?

Swoop is not authorized to carry dangerous goods/hazardous materials, commercial dangerous goods of any type will not be carried as cargo, nor will they be sent by COMAT.


How do we report incidents involving dangerous goods, including spills and leaks?

What do we do if there are Spills and Incidents on the Ramp?

1. Notify the Captain and provide the following information:


• Nature of release (spill, leak, fire or explosion)


• Date/time and location


• Type/quantity of substance released


• Impact to people (health/life), property and environment


• Brief description of the site and surrounding area


• Personnel notified



2. Notify the Flight Dispatcher.



3. Notify the Advisor, Dangerous Goods.

What do we do if there are spills/incidents during flight ?

Items (including packages or baggage) in the aircraft containing undeclared dangerous goods/hazardous materials which appear to be damaged or leaking must be removed from the aircraft as soon as safely possible.



1. Upon discovery, notify the Captain immediately, who must notify the Flight Dispatcher.



2. If the item belongs to a passenger, he is to be asked to specify what the item is and to provide information concerning any potential hazards.

What if we have to fight a fire and there is a dangerous goods spill?

1. Use standard firefighting procedures.


2. Water should not be used on a spill or when fumes are present as the spill may spread or the rate of fuming may increase.

What are FA actions if there are spills or leaks during flight?

1. Collect items such as paper towels, newspapers and/or other absorbent material or fabric, and at least two large bags and three small plastic (or air sickness) bags.



2. Don rubber gloves and Protective Breathing Equipment (PBE). Hands should always be protected before touching a suspicious item. Protective breathing equipment should always be worn when attending to an incident involving smoke, fumes or fire.



3. Move passengers away from the area and distribute wet towels or cloths.



4. Place the dangerous goods item/hazardous material in plastic bags and keep upright.



5. Stow plastic bags in an area away from passengers and Crew Members, such as the lavatory. Place item(s) upright on the floor and wedge firmly in place to keep item(s) from moving and to remain upright. Lock the lavatory door



.6. Treat the affected area in the same manner as the dangerous goods item/hazardous material.



7. Remove seat cushions/covers from fixtures and place in a plastic bag.



8. Cover spillage on carpet/floor with garbage bags or air sickness bags opened out so that the plastic side covers the spillage.



Note: Any dangerous goods/hazardous materials, contaminated furnishings or equipment that have been removed and stowed away or covered for safety should be subject to regular inspection.



9. After landing, identify the dangerous goods item/hazardous material to Ground Personnel and advise them where it is stowed.



10.Document in the Aircraft Logbook for Maintenance follow-up.
