Functionalists view on crime

Durkheim states that when a bad crime has occurred, it reminds the people on how bad the world is and how bad crime really is. This helps society stronger in standing up for what’s wrong

Marxism view on crime and deviance

Marxists believe that crime occurs because of capitalism. Also they believe consumerism is a massive factor of crime. This is when people in society want the new trend or latest gadget.

White collar and corarate crime

White collar crime is when crime is committed by someone who has a well paid job or a very serious job.


Corporate crime is when a whole business or industry commits a crime such as false advertisement or fraud.

Media and crime

Media affects the way people behave because they aspire to be like there heroes and idols so they begin to act like them. This is called the hypodermic syringe model.

Social conrol and crime and deviance

An example of social control, is when parents teach there children the correct way to act within society and if this fails, then society may struggle to control certain individuals.

They help keep social control in order by preventing crime and deviance and trafficking.


Functionalists view on police: they believe that without the police , then society would fall into chaos. They also believe there a huge role in the process of socialisation due to the fact that they visits schools and teach the correct behaviour of society.


Zero tolerance policing is when the police force act very strictly within society in order to make the innocent feel safer and more protect and it will scare this whom want to commit crime.


Marxist view on the police: Marxist believe that the police are biased against the working class. They enforce a set of rules for the ruling class to protect them against the working class. Karl Mannheim states that property is the main concern of most laws which most related to wealthy people.

The role of the courts

Magistrates courts are used when lower level crimes are commited. Courts have the power to send people to prison and this is the main form of social control in the UK. Marxists believe that courts are bias towards the rulin class and against the poor.

The main patterns of crime in the uk

New rights view on changes in crime : they believe crime is worse now then it was in the past. They believed there was a golden age where sit less crime was commited.


Patterns of crime and statistics: crime statistics are based on crime reported and the media tend t sensationalise the crime figures to make the country look better.
