USSR Expansionism in eastern Europe
1945-1948
The USSR was beginning to impose communist rule in other countries by not allowing free elections and leaving the Red Army in occupation. Stalin said this was a defensive measure as he created a buffer zone but the USA saw it as the first step to world domination.
Iron Curtain Speech March 1946
Churchill(no longer PM) went to the USA and said an iron curtain had fallen across Europe and the countries in the east were under soviet control. He criticised Stalin for this. It was seen as a provocative attack by the USSR and Stalin responded by saying he was protecting himself from invasion
Truman Doctrine 1947
Truman promised to send money, troops, equipment and advice to any country threatened by communism. He said he wouldn't allow any more countries to fall under soviet control (containment). This angered Stalin.

Atomic bomb
Stalin was annoyed with the USA because Truman hadn't told him he was going to use the atomic bomb. Stalin was convinced the USA would use the bomb to win worldwide power and felt threatened.

The USSR was also accused of breaking the agreement by taking to many reparations..
