Live Performance Introduction
This is a rough guide for the Introduction of your essay for a live performance. A good introduction sets a greater level of expectation from the examiner which makes the more willing to read your work.
The first section of the introduction.
Style, genre, the conventions and two line summaries.
Style.
The style is how the production is produced. For example Sleuth is a melodrama. The four basic styles are: Tragedy; Comedy; Melodrama and Drama
Genre.
This is a more specific description of the play. For example Shaw Shank Redemption was a Prison Drama/Thriller.
Conventions of genre.
Most genres have elements that the audience expects as they have been used many times in previous pieces of theatre from their genre/sub genre.
For examples the one convention of a horror are: Either dark or isolated setting.
The final part.
The summary.
The summary is a 2-3 line brief description of the piece of theatre. This is best done by highlighting the key moments, briefly, that you picked to use as your moments.
