Gas exchange in insects
Tracheae-air filled pipes used by insects for gas exchange
•air moves into tracheae through spiracles and move down conc gradient towards the cells.co2 moves up its conc gradient towards spircales.
Ventilation in insects
Tracheae branch into tracheoles which have thin permeable walls and lead to individual cells.
•tracheoles contains a fluid which oxygen dissolves in and diffuses into cells and co2 diffuses out
Rhythmic abdominal movements
Insects use rhythmic abdominal moments to change the volume of their body and to move air in and out of spiracles
Large insects use wing movement to pump thorax
