Use of the Nominative Case
Subject, complement (usually on the other side of a linking verb, such as 'to be'), direct address

Direct object of transitive verbs, objects of certain prepositions
Where nominative and accusative are the same
the plural of all genders, neuter of any noun, pronoun, or adjective, and singular of strong masculine nouns

modifies or limits a word by associating it with something: possessive, partitive (collection of things to which a particular thing belongs), descriptive (attributes a quality to a thing)
use of the dative case
interest (indirect object), direct object (often when it could be translated as either direct or indirect), possession (a dative of interest), interment, means, or manner (used with 'with' and 'by')

only in masculine and neuter singular adjectives and pronouns
use of instrumental
accompaniment ('with' something), expressions of time
