What is the test for sugars
Add Benedicks regent to a sample heat it in a water bath that is set to 75°C it will change from blue where it starts to green then yellow then orange then brick red depending on the concentration of reducing sugars
What is the test for starch
Add iodine solution to test sample if it’s present it will change from brownie orange to blue black colour
What is the test for lipids
Shake substance with ethanol for about a minute then pour solution into water if lipids are present they will make a precipitate which will show up as milky
What is the test for proteins
Add a few drops of potassium hydroxide solution to make solution alkaline and copper sulphate solution which is blue if there is no protein it will stay blue if there is it will turn purple
