Explain in detail how an impulse is passed through another neurone through synapse.
1. An action potential arrives.
2. The membrane depolarise. Calcium ion channels open. Calcium ions enter the neurone.
3. Calcium ions causes synaptic vesicle containing neurotransmitter to fuse with presynaptic membrane.
4. Neuro transmitter is released in synaptic cleft.
5. Neurotransmitter binds with receptors on the postsynaptic membrane. Sodium channels open.sodium ions flow through the channels.
6. The membrane depolarise and initiates an action potential.
7. When released the neurotransmitter will be taken up across the presynaptic membrane or it can diffuse and be broken down.
What is acetylcholine?
This is a type of neurotransmitter and has many functions such as stumulating muscles and it's largely made in the brain.
Where acetylcholine broken down?
It is broken down in synaptic cleft by acetylcholinesterase.
