Good for scale. We are becoming more homogenous, less barriers to enter markets because we all like the same things.
Benefits: cost, learning, exploiting knowledge.
Downsides: potential local preferences, administrative differences, geographical differences and economic differences
Structure follows strategy or strategy follows structure
Structure follows: the organisation is a vehicle to realise the strategy that was decided.
Strategy follows: strategy is something that happens in everyday activities, not a rational top down approach.
Fundamentals for organisations
Two requirements
Division of labour into various tasks (what are we going to do) and coordinating of these tasks. (When are we doing it, harmonization and timing)
