Diffusion
Spreading of a substance to fill available space. It usually occurs in liquids and gases. Lighter molecules diffuse (move) faster than heavy molecules.
Ammonium + Hydrochloric Acid
A reaction occurs due to diffusion and Ammonium Chloride is formed. Neutralization occurs as ammonia is an an alkaline and HCl is an acid.
Diffusion: Why does the ring not form immediately
Particles are not just moving in one direction
Tube is filled with air
Diffusion: NH4Cl: Where does the white reign form & why?
The white ring of smoke forms near the Hydrochloric acid side because Ammonia particles are lighter therefore they diffuse faster.
