Definition of rational numbers.
Includes all fractions, decimals and whole numbers (integers) both negative and positive.
(The term derives from the idea that a fraction represents a ratio. A rational number is any number that's ratio of two of two integers.)
Eg
- 3/8 because ratio of 3 divided by 8
- 0.8 because is ratio of 8 to 10
- 23 because 23 divided by 1
- -7 because is ratio -7 to 1
Definition of real numbers.
Any number that can be represented by a length or point on number line.
The set of real numbers consists of all rational and irrational numbers.
Definition of an irrational number.
Any number that cannot be written exactly as one whole number divided by another.
Eg square root of 2 or 50.
Definition of natural numbers.
The set used for counting eg 1, 2, 3...
Definition of integer.
A whole number positive or negative or ZERO.
Definition of positive integers.
An integer (whole number) greater than zero.
Definition of negative integers.
A number less than zero.
