2-Thermoregulation
3-Immune Function
4-Vitamin D
5-Excretes and Absorbs Substances

3 Principal Layers of Tissues that comprise
Integument
Epithelial Tissue(epidermis)
Connective Tissue(dermis)
Areolar+Adipose Tissue(hypodermis)
3 Principle Layers of Epidermis
1. Stratum basale— keratinocytes capable of dividing — melanocytes — touch and pressure detecting cells
2. Stratum spinosum — keratinocytes that are non-dividing and beginning to fill with the protein keratin — some dendritic cells that function in immunity — some melanocytes
3. Stratum corneum— composed of corneocytes — completely dead and filled with the protein keratin — cells slough off in a process called de-squamation
2 Principle Layers of Dermis
1- Papillary
2- Reticular
What tissue comprises the hypodermis and is the embryonic origin?
loose connective tissue called areolar tissue/ bands of collagen accompanied by adipose
tissue
derived from the mesoderm
What type of tissues comprise the epidermis and what are their embryonic origins?
Epidermal Strata(5)
Derived from Ectoderm
