how does blood flow to the heart
Blood enters via the vena cava then flows to the right atrium it then goes down through the valve which is specialised to stop blood backflow, then the blood will flow through the right ventricle to be passed into the lungs by the pulmonary artery. The oxygenated blood will reenter the heart via the pulmonary vein then it will go through the left atrium to the valve then to the left ventricle to be passed onto the rest of the body via the aorta. Left side needs to have a bigger muscle that the right because it is pumping blood around to the whole body down to the toes so it needs to have enough pumps for this whereas the right is only pumping blood to the lungs
Digestive system acting on food to break it down
Teeth - breaking down the food by chewing
Stomach - churns the food up (amylase-turns carbs into sugars) (lipase- turns fats into fatty acids) (protease-proteazs into amino acids) produced in the pancreas
Amylase acts in the mouth and small intestine
Protease acts in the stomach and small intestine
Lipase acts in small intestine
Bile produced in liver and stored in bile duct - neutralises stomach acid so it doesn’t damage small intestine
It will then move through the small intestine tobe absorbed then the large intestine where the water will be re absorbed.
Describe how the structure of intestine is adapted
Small intestine- absorbs all the food only very small food molecules can pass from the si into the blood stream so they need to be broken down by enzymes
Thin walls so the food can easily pass through the blood
Very large blood supply to carry it to the rest of the body
Villi- large surface area more food can pass through
Large intestine - re absorbs water
