Battle of Bunker Hill
an important battle in which the Massachusetts militia fought bravely, although they lost. The strong American effort gave the colonists confidence that they could win against the British.

a French aristocrat who fought as a major general in the American army.
Lord Charles Cornwallis
the British general who commanded troops from Charleston, South Carolina. He surrendered his entire army to George Washington after the battle of Yorktown.

the day the Revolutionary War finally ended, as the British troops evacuated New York City, and George Washington led his troops into New York.
