Lowenstein-Jensen (LJ) glycerol media
Recommend medium for human type tubercle.
Malachite green: inhibitory to organisms other than mycobacteria & also provide colour contrast to recognize colonise even when they are small.
Glycerol enhance growth.
The colonies of M. tuberculosis:
rough, tough, buff to yellowish colour and luxuriant growth.
LJ pyruvate medium
Used for isolation M. bovis.
The colonies: tiny, transparent and later becoming white. Growth is poor even when confluent.
Dorset egg
Non-selective medium well suited for maintenance of pure cultures of Mycobacterium.
Dubo's medium
Earliest liquid medium that gives uniformly dispersed cultures used for sensitivity tests and biochemical tests.
Selective Kirchner medium
Enrichment medium ideal for specimen other than sputum and should be used parallel with LJ medium.
Middlebrook 7H9 broth
Isolation, cultivation amd identification of Mycobacterium.
