MCB (miniature circuit breakers)
Protect the final circuits in a dist. system. Usually 63A. During s.c. High current causes magnets in the mcb to generate magnetic field which trips latch and breaks circuit.
RCD (residual current devices)
Protects against earth faults. Detects difference in current flow between live and neutral. Magnets monitor this disparity and trigger latch to switch, due to magnetic fields.
MCCBs (mounded case circuit breakers)
When a fault occurs it's detected by the trip unit. Air forces open the contacts within the device.
