They almost always persist throughout life unless corrected.
Not all congenial conditions are classified in this chapter.
The index will direct the coder to conditions assumed to be acquired whilst others will be assumed to be congenital

How must congenital heart disease be coded
Congenital heart disease is a vague term and the coder must seek the specific heart disease e.g ventricular septal defect (vsd) before coding
