Wavefront
1.Two successive wavefronts are one wavelength apart
2. The ray is perpendicular to the wavefront.
Laws of reflection
The angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence
Echo
Echo is a common wave phenomenon due to reflection. It can be used to measure distance and the technique is called the pulse-echo technique.
Relationship between the deepth of the water in refraction.
1. Deeper the water--->wave speed faster.
2. Shallower the water--->wase speed slower.
3. Shallow region to deep region region--->bends away from the normal. When frequency unchanged, velocity increase---> wavelength increase
4. Deep region to shallow region region--->bends towards the normal. When frequency unchanged, velocity decrease---> wavelength decrease.
Factors affecting diffraction
Waves are diffracted more if
1. The wavelength is longer
2. The gap is narrower
