In the 1800's British navy's was the largest in the world it was fears by almost every country. During the 1800's it was estimated they had over 75 battle ships and around 125 brawlers. That is what they used too send in first.

When the British found and I'm inhabited island they would take it over and use it as a stronghold or base. Because it was uninhabited they could you use that as much as they wanted and no-one knew they were there.
