Types of back pain
Lower back: musculoskeletal pain / sciatica (pinched nerve)
Flank pain: kidney infection / kidney stones usually one sided
Upper back : dissecting aortic aneurysm - associated with chest pain 2.Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) - can present with chest or left shoulder pain 3.acute cholecystitis- gallbladder stones/disease may radiate from RUQ, under right ribs around to mid back 4. Pulmonary embolus - sudden onset of upper back pain with SOB
Tx for back pain
If hypo 500ml of NS repeat once
Pain management
W/ acute upper back- 12 lead male 35 female 45
W/ acute lower back - neurological exam evaluating lower extremities
