A box-like retaining structure, used to keep water and other material out, while laying subterranean foundation for a large construction project. Some types that exist are box, open, and compressed air caissons.
CAST IN-PLACE SEGMENTAL BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION
An alternative method for building a concrete bridge in short segments, one at a time. The segments are cast in their final position on the structure.
CATCH BASIN
A reservoir receptacle designed to collect and filter out large objects from entering the sewer. It is the entrance of where the street gutter opens to the sewers.
COFFERDAM
A cofferdam is watertight structure used to facilitate projects in areas which are normally submerged under water.
COLD PLANER/MILLING MACHINE (FOR ROADS)
A cold planer which has the same purpose as a milling machine for roads, is a machine in construction that removes the layer of asphalt concrete or bituminous pavement from the roadway.
COPPER PIPES TYPES (M, L, AND K) AND THEIR USE
Copper pipes are metal tubes that are light, strong, and corrosion resistant. It is mainly used for the applications such as plumbing, heating and air-conditioning and come in different types.
CURTAIN WALL
Curtain wall is a non-structural outer covering of a building which is designed to resist air and water infiltration, sway caused by wind and seismic wave. It is always made of lightweight material since it does not carry any dead load from the building.
DERRICK BARGE
A water-going, flat-bottomed vessel equipped with a large crane for lifting heavy objects.
Ductile Iron Pipe
A pipe of varying size made of ductile iron.
Falsework
Falsework is temporary construction that is used to support structures while the concrete is setting or the steel is being jointed.
FSC Certified Lumber
FSC certified lumber is grown and harvested with environmentally responsible practices which comply with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Certification ensures social responsibility and economic viability, guaranteeing the consumer can trust the source of the lumber.
GABION

A gabion has many uses including erosion control, road building, dam construction, and military applications. They are used to stabilize shorelines, stream banks and slopes against erosion.
GLUELAM BEAM
A beam composed of multiple, glued-together wood layers laminated with a moisture-resistant agent. Its structure and weight is comparable to regular wood, and it is used where regular wood is not suitable due to limitations on its size and shape; glue-lam beams can easily be shaped into arches, or be used as abnormally large beams or columns.
GRAVING DOCK
A constructed facility that is connected to a water way and is capable of being dry or flooded by a series of gates and pumps in order to construct or repair a pontoon/vessel/ or any object that can be floated out.
Gusset Plates
Gusset plates are thick sheets of steel that are used to connect beams and girders to columns or to connect truss members.
HDPE PIPING
High-density polyethylene is a thermoplastic piping material that is made from petroleum.
Joist Hanger
A “joist hanger” is a pre-manufactured metal angle or strap piece, which is designed to hold joist ends together.
MANUFACTURED SAND
Manufactured sand is a substitute for natural sand, and is made by crushing rocks with a machine.
MICROTUNNELING
Microtunneling is the process of that uses a remote controlled boring machine to create small diameter tunnels. They are similar to larger tunnel boring machines but a much smaller scale.
MSE WALL
Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls are specially constructed retaining walls made out of soil with artificial reinforcing. They generally consist of wall-facing panels followed by alternating layers of granular backfill or structural backfill and a reinforcing material
Mullion
A mullion is a vertical member that forms a division between units of a window, door, or screen (or is used decoratively).
