CD-ROM

700MB (737 including error correction)

CD-RW

Same as CD-ROM (700MB) but it is possible to rewrite the data.

DVD-R

4.7GB, can contain video and be played on any DVD playing device.

DVD-RW

Same amount as DVD-R (4.7 GB) but can be rewritten. (Ideal for home theaters)

Blu-Ray

A single sided Blu-ray disc has the storage capacity of 25GB. A dual layer Blu-ray disc has the storage capacity of 50GB. Blu-ray technology has the possibility of reaching 200GB on a single disc.

Tape

Sony announced in 2014 that they had developed a tape storage technology with the highest reported magnetic tape data density, 148 Gbit/in² (23 Gbit/cm²), potentially allowing tape capacity of 185 TB.

DVD-R DL (Dual layer)

DVD-R DL discs hold 8.5 GB by utilizing two recordable dye layers, each capable of storing a little less than the 4.7 gigabyte (GB) of a single layer disc, almost doubling the total disc capacity.
