Model 1: Locality Development

Purpose: work with community to solve a common problem at the community/local level



Social Workers Role:


ENABLER - E for empower. Helps members use own resources to problem solve.


BROKER - mediates and negotiates between community groups--links community with services.

Model 2: SOCIAL PLANNING

Purpose:


Determine a range of solutions to problems AND DEVELOP PROGRAMS to solve problems.



Social Worker's Role:


EXPERT- gather data and facts used to resolve problems


Key Words:


Plan or develop, homeless shelters, afterschool recreation programs, develop programs

Model 3: Social Action

Purpose:


Assist community members who NEED assistance/the DISADVANTAGED. You will take ACTION & CONFRONT on their behalf.



Social Worker's Role:


ADVOCATE: represent the disadvantaged.


ACTIVIST: bargaining and confrontation

Key Words:


Landlord & tenants, the homeless, TENANT ASSOCIATION.

Model 4: Social Reform

Purpose:


Change social policy. FORM COALITIONS. Bring organizations together.



Social Worker's Role:


ORGANIZER - join groups together to take joint action toward specific goals.

Key Words:


Changing laws, bringing large coalitions together.


Example: bring Mothers Against Drink Driving (MADD) & Fathers Against Drink Driving (FADD) together.
