Common carrier elements

Holding out or willingness to, transport of person or property, place to place, compensation

Holding out

Offering to the public the carriage of person or property for hire either intrastate or interstate

Examples of holding out

Signs, advertising, agents who obtain passenger traffic from public, physically holding out without advertising

Non common carriage

Outlook briefing

6 or more hours from time of brief

Inflight briefing

Update a preflight briefing

Wind shear

Rate of change of wind velocity

Areas wind shear is likely to occur

Low level temp inversion, frontal zone or thunderstorms, clear air turbulence

Surface analysis chart

Every 3 hours. Located pressure systems & fronts. Overview of winds , temp, & dew point temp.

Radar summary chart

Hourly with a valid time of 35 mins past each hour. Displays areas of precipitation

Hypoxia

Oxygen deficiency to the brain.

hyperventilation

abnormal increase in the volume of air breathed in and out of the lungs

smelled exhaust fumes in the cockpit?

Be suspect of exhaust coming in from heat duct – shut-off/close heater valve. Open air vents. If severe, reduce power, open window and land as soon as possible.

white smoke in the cockpit?

White smoke is usually electrical. Turn off battery to stop or reduce it

black smoke in the cockpit?

Black smoke is usually engine related. Reduce power and see if that helps. If not, you should prepare foremergency landing – engine out.
