Subcostal Nerve
O: T12 Anterior Ramus

Course: Courses along inferior border of the 12th rib; lateral cutaneous branch descends over iliac crest

Distribution: Lateral Cutaneous branch supplies skin of hip region interior to iliac crest and anterior to greater trochanter.
Iliohypogastric Nerve
O: L1 Ventral Primary Ramus

Muscular Branches: Provides partial innervation to transverse abdominis and internal abdomina oblique muscles.

Cutaneous Branches: Supply innervation to posterolateral gluteal region and abdomen above the pubis
Ilioinguinal Nerve
O: L1 Ventral Primary Ramus

MM Branches: Partial innervation to internal abdominal oblique muscle

Cutaneous Branches: Supply Innervation to superomedial thigh of skin over genitals
Genitofemoral Nerve
O: L1 and L2 Ventral Primary Rami.

Pierces psoas major

Genital Branch: Motor supply of cremaster muscle

Femoral Branch: Cutaneous supply to skin over femoral triangle
Obturator Nerve
O: Derived from Anterior Division of L2, L3, L4, Ventral Primary Rami
Anterior Branch of Obturator Nerve
Exits obturator foramen just above obturator externus

Cutaneous supply: to medial thigh

Branches to hip joint and femoral artery

Motor supply: to adductor longus, gracilis and adductor brevis
Posterior Branch of Obturator Nerve
Pierces obturator externus

Motor supply: to obturator externus, adductor magnus and possibly adductor brevis

Articular branch to knee joint
Accessory Obturator Nerve
O: Derived from the anterior divisions of L3, L4 VPR

Articular branch to hip joint

Motor supply: to pectineus

Present in about 8% of people
Femoral Nerve
O: Derived from the posterior divisions of L2, L3, L4 VPR

Lies superficial to and between iliacus and psoas major muscles

In the femoral triangle, lies lateral to the femoral artery

Innervates: iliacus, sartorius, pectineus, quadriceps femoris,rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis,vastus intermedius

Anterior cutaneous branches (L2, L3): supply anterior thigh
Saphenous nerve
Branch of Femoral Nerve.
Cutaneous: (L3, L4) supplies skin of medial patella, medial leg and medial foot in the leg, saphenous nerve travels with great saphenous vein
Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve
O: derived from the posterior divisions of L2, L3 VPR

Passes under inguinal ligament to enter the thigh lateral to the femoral triangle
Cutaneous supply: to anterolateral thigh

Sciatic Nerve Origin
Innervation of Muscles
O: Derived from anterior division of L4, L5, S1, S2, S3 VPR
Enters gluteal region inferior to piriformis
Divides into tibial and common peroneal nerves usually in thigh.
Innervates: Long head of biceps femoris, Semitendinosus, Semimembranosus, Ischial head of adductor magnus,Gastrocnemius, Plantaris, Soleus, Popliteus,
Tibialis Poseterior, Flexor Digitorum Longus, and Flexor Hallucis Longus
Travels deep to popliteal fossa lateral to politeal vessels.
Descends deep to soleus on intermuscular septum.
Divides into medial and lateral plantar nerves under flexor retinaculum.
Medial Sural Cutaneous Nerve
O: Arises from tibial nerve.
Descends between two heads of gastrocnemius.
Travels with saphenous vein.
Cutaneous Supply: Arise from tibial nerve and supply skin of heel.
Sural Nerve
O: Formed by the junction of the sural communicating branch of the common peroneal nerve.
Cutaneous Supply: Skin of lower posterolateral leg, lateral foot, and 5th toe.
Medial Plantar Nerve
O: Begins under flexor retinaculum.
Divides into proper plantar digitals and three common plantar digital nerves.
Innervations by Medial Plantar Nerve
Innervates Flexor Hallucis Brevis, Abductor hullucis, Flexor digitorum brevis, and 1st Lumbrical
Cutaneous Suppply by Medial Plantar Nerve
Medial Sole of foot.

Lateral Plantar Nerve
O: Smaller terminal branch of tibial nerve
Divides into deep and superficial branches
NN I: Inntervates Quadratus plantae and the Lateral three Lumbricals, Plantar and Dorsal Interossei.
Lateral Plantar Nerve Innervations
Quadratus plantae, adductor hallucis, flexor digiti minimi brevis, abductor digiti minimi, lumbricals 2-4, and interossei
Cutaneous supply of Lateral Plantar Nerve
Lateral Sole of Foot.
Plantar Surfaces and nail beds of 5th toe and lateral side of 4th toe.
Origin of Common Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve
Derived from the posterior division of L4, L5, S1, S2 VPR
Fairly superficial as it travels around neck of fibula
Gives off muscular, articular, and cutaneous branches before it divides into deep and superficial peroneal nerves
Common Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve Innervation
Innervates short head of biceps femoris
Cutaneous Supply of Common Peroneal (Fibular) Nerve
Supply skin to upper lateral leg
Deep Peroneal Nerve Origin
Travels around neck of fibula to descend in anterior compartment of leg with anterior tibial vessels
Divides into lateral terminal and medial terminal branches

Tibialis Anterior, Extensor Hallucis Longus, Extensor Digitorum Longus, and Peroneus Tertius

Pudendal Nerve

MM Distribution: Muscular branches to perineal muscles, external urethral sphincter, and external anal sphincter.
