Bouleuterion: poltical assembly had round building and seats cut into travertine shelf decorated with masonry or blocks. could have had capacity of 1200 in which case would have been ekklesiasterion

Hera II - poseidon , 460's, parallel to first temple of hera made of local travertine, doric style, 2 altars

samnites were expanding and right at end of 5th take over in paestum


400 bc they came in and the city changes abrubtly to lucanian though retained some greek

Italic: Pomp

Oscans inhabited originally but greeks eventually colonized


- etruscans made moves to influence here starting in the 6th century, turned into a huge feud that lasted into the 5th


- big battle with greek naval victory, so greek culture prevailed of Italic yet still good to note etruscans were able to do that much from so far

most obvious influence of rome, 4 main arteries 2 of these extended across Etruria and als Umbria so these wre most important

Atrium: 6 columns with part opening to sky with slanted roof


Tablinum - used like offices adjascent to atriums

- would have used a hill for water, it runs down into building

goddess of land and fertility, portrayed in war and nature at peasutm, was married to zeus, paestum loves her dedicated at least 2 temples

division of land, rational organization and essential infrastructure


were able to then organize roads, baths, public spaces, acqueducts ect

staff found in public space or like college in rocco ,said "of the people" on it. symbol of herald who spoke on behalf of community

Eumachia

priestess of pompeii, built large building near forum that was used for guild fullers which is where clothes were sewn and cleaned ect. appeared similar to the temple and was across from basilica
