Jim Crow

A series of laws in the South that enforced racial segregation in all aspects of life (voting, public transportation, education)

NAACP

Its mission is "to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination"

Plessy v. Ferguson

1896 Supreme Court Case that allowed segregation to exist, established doctrine of "separate but equal." Racial segregation was constitutional as long as the facilities being segregated were equal.
