Define civics.

What are the four leadership/decision making styles?
Autocratic, democratic, consensual and laissez-faire.
Describe autocratic leadership.
Autocratic leadership is when the leader is the sole person responsible for making decisions. An advantage of autocratic leadership is the speed of decision making, A disadvantage is that the knowledge and experiences of others may be ignored.
Describe democratic leadership.
Democratic leadership is when all members of the group vote and majority rules. The leader has just one vote. An advantage is that knowledge and experience from all members is heard. A disadvantage is that not all members of the group will be happy with the decision.
Describe consensual leadership.
Consensual leadership is when all members of the group must agree. An advantage is that everyone is happy with the decision. A disadvantage is that it is very slow and sometimes unmanageable.
Describe laissez-faire leadership.
Laissez-faire leadership is when the leader lets other members make decisions for him/her. An advantage is that strong members of the group can make good (or bad) decision for the leader. A disadvantage is that if no-one in the group is motivated, chaos will ensue.

Governments make decisions for us.
Governments help to preserve the peace and keep order.

What is the origin of the word 'democracy'?
The word 'democracy' comes from the Greek 'demos' which means 'people' and kritos which means 'power'. Literally, it means power from the people.
