What is the size of an infant's brain?
1/4 of their length is their head, so it's pretty big. It's about 1/4-1/3 the size of an adult brain.

Both palms stroked at once. Then eyes close, mouth opens, neck bends and head tilts forward.

Sweet, sour, bitter
What can fetus hear?
Mother's hearbeat, beating rate and voice. At birth she has a preference for mother's voice.
Auditory discrimination
Can distinguish women's from men's voices (prefer women).
Habituation
Baby doesn't react to familiar things. This aids in testing babies by comparing reaction to dishabituated things.
Sight
Not very good. By 3rd month they have depth perception. Can perceive color.

Define ages of locomotive development
at 3 months can roll over, at 6 months can sit up, from 6 to 10 months baby crawls. Can be frustrating as baby learns because she wants to be independent.
What are fetal fatality rates?
More than 1/2 occur during the first week and 2/3 during the first four weeks.
What are some causes of SIDS?
Heart problems, serotonin levels in brain, unable to breath while sleeping.
