Liquid metal fast breeder reactor

Draw a diagram showing how a liquid metal fast breed reactor works

Explain how a breeder reactor works

The principle fuel used is natural fuel since it contains a greater proportion of U238 compared to U235. The later is not fissionable but is able to absorb neutron to form a fissionable atom, Pu239. The moderator used is liquid , a very weak moderator which doesn't restrict movement of neutrons and allows them to move energetically. The reason is so that these neutrons can rapidly collide with U238 forming Pu239 as quickly as possible. Pu239 is fissionable hence , it releases energy in the process. For the process to be self sustaining Pu 239 must be regenerated as fast as it is being used. In a nutshell a breeder reactor is one that produces more fuel than it consumes it
