Driveline Yoke, Universal Joint and Slip Joint

-Play in the U-joint


-Bolts missing from caps


-Excessive grease being flung out, indicating a bad seal or over greasing on slip joint


-Signs of excessive movement

Frame Rails and Cross Member

Check for:


-Cracks


-Loose Bolts


-Wires hanging out from the wire looms


-Wires being chaffed from rubbing on frame

Carrier Bearing: Supports the driveline and helps reduce vibrations over long spans

Check for: Excessive movement up, down, side and to side by pushing on the driveline beside it

Rear View of the Pump Transmission:

Check for:


-Ensure oil is clear and the level is visible anywhere within the sight glass


-Leaks on the input and output side


-Linkages and airlines for pump shift in proper working order

Fuel Filter

Check glass bowl on top to be sure fuel filter isn't clogged

Primer Pump

Check for:


-Loose wires


-Proper mounting


-No continuous leaks

Body mounts

Check for:


-Loose or missing bolts


-Rubber bushing in place and in good condition

Intake Relief Valve/Drain

Check drains for proper operation and that intake relief valves are properly secured and not capped

Air Tanks (Most Engines have 3)

Check for:


-Any damage to airlines


-Water or oil contamination ( by draining some air out)

Detroit Diesel Fire Commander (Pressure Governor)

Check for:


-Ok to pump/Throttle ready


-Throttle a slow and smooth steady rise to 150 psi


-Exercise tank fill valve



Valves

Check for:


-Check valves by opening drains, operating valves open and closed. Look for smooth operation

Warterous Change over Valve

Check for proper operation by running pressure up to 150 psi in volume mode. Bring rpm to idle, switch to pressure mode. Throttle up to 150 psi. Idle down and switch to volume mode.
