siddhartha gautama

founder of buddhism, saw misery and wanted to put himself through it. sat 49 days under tree, found source of suffering and how to eliminate it.

four noble truths: life has suffering, desire causes it, remove it removes suffering. disciplined life with eightfold eliminates desires. reach nirvana. no luxury, right belief, right resolve, speech, meidation

Nalanda

created some form of education based on buddhism. buddhist monastery at nalanda was famous. during gupta. studied vedas, hindu, logic, maths, astronomy

bhagavad gita

poetic work which showed expectations of hindiuism. episode of manbhavata dialogue betwen arjuna and krishna (god). show him that listening to caste would make them be good.

hinduism

religion based on bhagavad. salvation was given to those who follow caste requirements. no personal attachment: four aims: artha, dharma, kama, moksha.
