The first step in the process of acquiring multicultural cousneling skills should be that students become involved in a self exploratory clas to help identify their cultural and ethnic blind spots.and a second course dealing exclusively with multicultural issues and minority group.

Training: Classes, teachers that are well trained and experienced in multicultural counseling, interships that offer experiences in a multicultural settings, interactions with diverse groups of people who face a myriad of problems.. Well selected intership experiences, trainees will not only expand theri own consciosunes but will also increase their knowledge of diverse groups and will have a biasis for acquiring intervention skills. Reading and traveling, films and videtapes, seminars,workshops that focus on ulticultural issues int eh helping profession. Such range of experiences will snsitize students to a broad range of life experiences and cultural values will contribute to their effeciveness as cousnlors.

While learning the trainnee should be paitient and accept limitiations and expand your vision of how your culture continues to influence the person you are today. Work on becoming a more effective person and cousnelor and remember that this is an ongoing process.
