-Absolute monarchy: the gov't is controlled by a king who has absolute power and the power is passed down through bloodline


-Dictatorship: a gov't where one single person rules and has complete and total control over the country


-Oligarchy: gov't in which a small elite group rules(usually a single political party or a race)


-Theocracy: a gov't where the rules rule on behalf of a religion or as directed by a religious or holy being

What is an anarchy?

An anarchy is a "type of gov't" in which there is no government

What was Thomas Hobbes' view of human nature and the need for government?

Humans were naturally selfish and quick to fight. People would always be at war with each other and never be productive without a gov't.

What was the "social contract" Hobbes believed that existed between the citizens of a country and their government?

Hobbes believed that a single ruler should have total authority over the people and that once the citizens gave up certain rights and freedoms in exchange for protection, citizens no longer had the right to overthrow, replace, or even question the gov't.
