Homicide
The unlawful killing of one human being by anothe
4 Categories of Homicide
Murder, Manslaughter, Excusable homicide and Justifiable homicide
1st Degree Murder
The intent to kill, that includes the attributes of premeditation and malice aforethought
2nd Degree Murder
Includes malice aforethought but not premeditation
Excusable homicide
A death that occurs as a consequence of an accident perpetrated by a person performing a lawful act w/ordinary caution
Justifiable homicide
Involves a legal act, such as the infliction of the death penalty on a convicted felon or the killing in self defense
Felony murder doctrine
holds that if a death occurs during the commission of a felony, the perpetrator of the felony is chargeable with 1st degree murder
What is the difference between a mass murder and a serial killer?
A mass murderer kills multiple victims in a single episode and claim fewer victims.
A serial killer commit repeat murders over a period of time, usually murdering their victims w/in an hour after they abduct them
Assault
is a threat or an attempt to do bodily harm to another
Battery
is the actual conduct
Terrorism
is premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by substantial groups or clandestine agents, usually intended to influence an audience
Rape
is defined as sexual knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will (older definition)

takes one of four forms, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse or neglect
Corporate violence
The production of unsafe products and the failure of corporations to provide a safe working environment for their employees.
Government violence
Governments commit violence upon their own citizens and those of foreign countries
Ex: genocidal pulverizing that Muslims have undergone at the hands of Serbs in Kosovo
Professional Violence
Due to their power and position, able to perpetrate more violence w/out interference

Organized crime
