Climacteric and Menopause

Reproductive capacity declines or is lost for both men and women, this is called climacteric. Males experience a decrease in testosterone. Women experience a decrease in estrogen and progesterone. The first stage of reduced fertility is known as perimenopause. When periods cease for a year or more, women officially reach menopause and can no longer reproduce.

Changes in Muscle Mass and Bone Density

Sarcopenia, the loss of muscle mass and strength. Calcium deficiency causes bones to become brittle and less dense, which could result in a condition called osteoporosis.

Signs of Socio-emotional Change

Maturity is the ability to adapt to the inevitable changes that happen in life. Erikson called this stage of development generativity versus stagnation.
