this is seen at a threat on marriage, this is where two people live together and are in a commited relationship however are not married. This is the fastest growing family type in britain (2.2million) studies: Burgoyne says that this is only temporary, most people cohabiting aim to get married in the future, but don't for maybe economic reasons. Fletcher says that cohabiting is the same as the nuclear family because these relationships have the same commitmentas marriage but they do not have the legitimate label of marriage. |

Choice- cultural and economic changes means that people have the ability to chose their life style instead of marrying to become economically dependent for example. conflict - There is a potential clash of what people want for themselves and what they want from a relationship. |
