What is perception? |
Transforming things in environment into internal representations (ie sight into memory) |
What is disembodied software? |
Software that does cognition (desire->ouput) for another piece of technology, such as Amazon's recommendation system which is separate from Amazon itself |
What is distributed cognition? |
When multiple cognitive agents work on the same task. Ie two people working together on a project. |
What is cognition? Describe in relation to number 3. |
Manipulation of representations. Eyes see number 3, brain recognizes it as 3, knows less that 4, more than 2, etc. |
Where is memory stored in animals, software, and distributed systems? |
Animal: brain Software: databases, symbols Distributed system: paper, brain , disk, etc |
Describe sensory memory |
-Can be overwritten every few seconds
-Inputs from the senses |
Describe short term memory |
-a temporary store for memories
-some things end up in long-term memory from STM -sleep important to transfer memories out of STM -appears to be in hippocampus |
Describe long term memory |
-memories here probably stored here forever
-some memories may be harder to access than others |
What are declarative vs procedural memories? |
Declarative: facts/stats Procedural: how to do things/processes, ie how to tie a shoe |
What are some parts of software memory? |
tables, schemata, frames, scripts, logical sentences, bitmaps, activation patterns, weights in links |
What is learning? |
Changing memory(s) with the purpose of preparing a mind for better action in the future |
Name the 7 main types of learning |
Habitua |
