Describe how CHAP is used to authenticate a PPP session.
Two routers are connected and the interfaces are brought up. The first router sends a challenge, asking for a username and password from the other router, and providing a random number. The second router runs a hash algorithm on its secret password using that random number and sends the result back. The first router runs the same algorithm using the same number, and compares the results.
