What does the senate do?

Make sure bills are passed that are at full potential, bills cant be passed without senate apporval.

What procedure do proposed bills go through?

First Reading, Second Reading, Committee of the whole house, Third Reading, Royal Assent.

First Reading?

MLA's propose wether or not they should debate on it in a later meeting.

Second Reading?

They debate on the bills general goals after, decide wether they should let it be studied by the committee of the whole house.

Committee of the whole house ?

All MLA'S are part of the committee. They ask detailed questions of the bill, meaning and purpose. May decide to amend the bill. Can take few days or several weeks.

Third Reading?

MLA's may choose to debate the bill before taking final vote. If passed, the speaker declares is as an act.

Royal Assent?

LG goes to legislative chamber to give royal assent to the new act. Which becomes a law of BC.
