Consider ads+ did ads of each approach and the factors hat determine what style is adopted by a manager/leader.

The Blake Mouton grid

Compares the level of concern for people with the level of concern for task and then categories into 5 types of management: country club, team leader, impoverished, middle of the road and produce or perish.

Impoverished

This leader is mostly ineffective as they have a low concern for task and a low concern for people.

Country club

As long as team members are happy and secure they will work hard.

High concern for people/ low concern for task.

The task suffers from a lack of direction and control.

Produce or perish

They are significantly concerned about the task and less concern about employees. They view punishment as the most effective means to motivate employees. They are usually associated with autocratic leaders.

Middle of the road

Medium task/medium people.

Compromises on a bit of each concern so neither task nor people needs are fully met. Leaders who use this style settle for average performance.

Team leader

This is the best managerial style as the leaders stress the task needs and the needs of the people equally high as they have a high concern for task and a high concern for people. This creates a team environment based on trust and respect as employees are committed to and have a high stake in the organisation's success which leads to high satisfaction and motivation and as a result high production.
