Dermis

Dermis is the inner layer of skin and is made up of connective tissues. Blood vessels, sweat/ oil glands, nerves, and hair roots are found in the dermis.

Epidermis

Outer layer of skin and contains living and dead cells. Living cells of the epidermis give skin its pigment. Has no blood vessels, depends on the blood vessels in dermis for nutrients. Does contain a few sensory and nerve endings giving of pain and pressure.

What are the five types of bones?

Long bones= Hard dense bone that provide strength, structure, and mobility.


Short bones= Allow skill and ease in movements. (Wrist and ankle bones)


Flat bones=Thin flat curved bone that protect organs. (Ribs, sternum, skull)


Irregular bones=Irregularly shaped bone with various bony projections. Provide sites for muscle attachment.( Hip & vertebrae in spinal column


Sesamoid bones=Short irregular bones imbedded into a tendon or protect the tendon. (Patella)

What are the six types of movable synovial joints?

Ball & Socket= Allows movement is all directions. (Hips and shoulders)


Hinge= Allows moment in one direction around a single axis. (Elbows, knees fingers)


Pivot= Allows turning from side to side.


Saddle= Allows for a wide range of motion between two articulating bones. (Thumb)


Gliding= Limited but complex movements. (Wrist & ankles)
